Antique Lyon & Healy 5 String Banjo 18 Frets- 11 in Head- Possibly 1890.
The date is estimated from online research looking at other similar bamjos. There are no markings except for the metal/brass piece at the bottom of the strings which is stamped ( PAT JAN 4 87)
I have found 2 different sources which should place this at around 1890, but I'm not an expert just a reseller. Do your own research.
The lady I purchased this froms father recently died at 92 years old and said that he owned this banjo when she was a little girl.
The wood bridge will need to be replaced, it's only holding 4 out of the 5 strings.
It looks like one nut is missing around the rim of the head casing.
I'm pretty sure the head was replaced at some point it seems to be in very good clean condition.
In good condition, with some care and cleaning could be very good.
I don't know the value of this instrument so I will be pricing it high and continually lowering the price until it sells.
