Trader-BOB's MUSIC offers a JR Stewart Le Domino Banjo Uke Ukulele. JR Stewart produced instruments from 1926 to 1930, when the stock market crashed, causing him to go bankrupt. His instruments were reputable, well made. This little cutie has a 7" diameter head. New goatskin (thin). 12 head tension hooks, all original matching hardware, (hooks, nuts, shoes, steel flesh ring and grooved brass main tension hoop). When I got this the head had already been replaced, not very well. When I dismantled it to clean it up, I noticed the tone ring, (a metal, probably steel, ring, that seats in a groove atop of the body, that the goatskin head membrane folds over, as it makes its way down to the flesh ring), was missing, not reinstalled by the last repair person. I made a tone ring from a piece of 1/8" diameter brass rod. Actually, uncoated brazing rod. It shows in picture number 11. The decal on the headstock was as is as I got it. Very careful not to lose any more of it. A lot of hand polish work to remove the 90 years of nicotine accumulation. The original tailpiece as I got it. (Waverly) Patent applied for, is for a 5-string banjo. The neck fastener wedge is also Waverly patent applied for, 1920's. I'm not sure the trim washers, on the tuner spindles are original, but they were on it, and there are washer impressions on the headstock, from them being there, so there they are. I have replaced the plastic binding on the bass side of the fretboard, and pieced the binding together on the lower binding on the resonator. The strings are new, and the bridge is a replacement, (missing when I got it). This little beauty is play ready, and should be good for another 90+ years, with the correct care. Read my feedback, buy with
confidence!
