VINTAGE 1960s JAPAN M.T. BATTERY OP TIN TOY CAR FIRE CHIEF VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE

Description

Offered here is a vintage battery / batt / bat operated / op tin toy. It is a Volkswagen Beetle with "FIRE CHIEF" and "F.D." (Fire Department) tin litho paint. Inside (near the rear window) it is marked: "TRADE MARK M.T. MODERN TOYS...MADE IN JAPAN." (This maker is also known as "Masadaya".) It measures 10 & 1/2 inches long, by 4 inches wide. It runs on 2 D cell batteries and still "MOSTLY" works. It has "bump & go" action which still functions. The blue light on top flashes on and off. I assume it SHOULD make a siren noise, but the sound it produces is more like a weak "squeaking" noise - so THAT only partly works. I'm going to call the condition FAIR, but PLEASE READ THE FULL DESCRIPTION, see the pictures, and determine your own grade. IT IS MISSING ONE BATTERY CONTACT. (I put piece of aluminum foil in place of the missing contact to test it.) It is also MISSING BOTH REAR HUBCAPS. It is missing a section of the thin metal trim on the driver's side. I could not find another example of this toy, in my online searching, to compare - but I THINK it probably had an antennae on the passenger side of the hood. Also, there are two pre-made holes on the roof (over the front windshield) - I'm guessing SOMETHING went there, and is now missing. (See close-ups with pencil point indication the above flaws.) There is a little rust and "spider webbing" to the paint - mostly on the underside. The car has some dings, small paint rubs and scratches. The steering wheel is still present. Front & back windows are still intact.  It still displays fairly well, but will probably disappoint the condition freak. (I'm one myself.) I think this was made in the 1960's - give or take. It is guaranteed to be old & original, or your money back.
